How to spot fake colgate
Colgate has released a public information on their website on how to easily identify counterfeit toothpaste. The advisory is a part of the serious crack down to recall all fake colgate toothpaste which was first discovered last June 14 being sold in some discount stores four US states.
On June 29, 2007 Health Canada advised that counterfeit products falsely labeled as Colgate have been found on the Canadian market and pose a significant risk to health. These products have been found in the discount chain “Everything for a Dollar Store.” Canadian distributors are cooperating in the investigation and have removed the product from their shelves.
The counterfeit products are falsely labeled as Colgate Fluoride Toothpaste Herbal and Colgate Fluoride Toothpaste Maximum Cavity Protection marked as 100ml. The Colgate Fluoride Toothpaste Maximum Cavity Protection is labeled as “Manufactured in South Africa” and contains misspellings including “isclinically”, “SOUTH AFRLCA”, and “South African Dental Assoxiation”. A third toothpaste, also falsely labeled as Colgate Fluoride Toothpaste Gel was confirmed to be counterfeit.
Genuine Colgate toothpaste approved for sale in Canada is safe and is labeled in English and French.

Consumers should not use toothpaste with the incorrect markings. Consumers who suspect they have a tube can call Health Canada at 1-800-267-9675.
