Massive Recall of Nokia BL-5C Battery
46 Million Nokia-branded BL-5C Battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan are now being recalled by Nokia due to possible occurrence of over heating while charging.
According to the Nokia battery recall advisory site: There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported. I’m not sure if this case is connected on the Nokia battery explosion experienced by Ms. Lilibeth Licastro which was reported few weeks ago at TV Patrol World . News update today reported that her mobile was now in Finland and Nokia team is already investigating her case.. Hmmm.. sound like there is a connection huh..:)
Around 50 Nokia mobile model are using this battery and these are the following:
Nokia 1100, Nokia 1100c, Nokia 1101, Nokia 1108, Nokia 1110, Nokia 1112, Nokia 1255, Nokia 1315, Nokia 1600, Nokia 2112, Nokia 2118, Nokia 2255, Nokia 2272, Nokia 2275, Nokia 2300, Nokia 2300c, Nokia 2310, Nokia 2355, Nokia 2600, Nokia 2610, Nokia 2610b, Nokia 2626, Nokia 3100, Nokia 3105, Nokia 3120, Nokia 3125, Nokia 6030, Nokia 6085, Nokia 6086, Nokia 6108, Nokia 6175i, Nokia 6178i, Nokia 6230, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6270, Nokia 6600, Nokia 6620, Nokia 6630, Nokia 6631, Nokia 6670, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6681, Nokia 6682, Nokia 6820, Nokia 6822, Nokia 7610, Nokia N70, Nokia N71, Nokia N72, Nokia N91, Nokia E50, Nokia E60
If your mobile model is included on the list above, then I suggest you check the brand of your battery. If it is BL-5C like what is illustrated on the image above, proceed to Nokia battery recall website and encode the 26 character product code that can be found at the back of the battery. The online verification will then inform you whether your battery is candidate for battery replacement. I’ve checked mine and fortunately the online verification prompted me that my battery is not affected by the massive recall campaign applicable for batteries that were manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006.
On the other hand, if it happens that you own potentially defective battery you will be asked to provide your address and contact information so Nokia could send you the battery replacement free of charge of course. A blank envelop will also be provided by Nokia so you can put your defective battery inside to be sent back to them.
