Peterson Jason Pascual: Pinoy Editor of Oprah Magazine
Peterson Jason Pascual, simply PJ to family, friends and associates works as an editor of O, The Oprah Magazine owned by billionaire, philanthropist and award-winning talk show host Oprah Winfrey.
He considers himself amazingly blessed to have this opportunity to get hired as accessories assistant for the lifestyle and fashion magazine that has become so popular worldwide.
The 22 year-old Pascual credits “focus, dedication, and hard work” to his success. “It is not the title that is important. Mas mahalaga na mahal mo ang trabaho mo.”
Born in Manila, Pascual was a Business Management graduate of the De La Salle University. After getting his diploma in 2000, he decided to try his luck New York to pursue his true passion: fashion.
Pascual enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, one of the world’s most important cultural centers, with hundreds of world-class museums, galleries, and performance venues.
When the opportunity to work for Winfrey came up, he was immediately hired as accessories assistant.
His rise is also very fast. In just two years, he had been promoted to assistant accessories editor, bypassing four positions under the normal promotional ladder in the process. Not just that, he holds the distinction of being the only Filipino in the magazine’s staff.

He also has nothing but praise for Winfrey. “Mabait siya. On the magazine’s fifth anniversary, she gave each of the staff $5,000,” he said in the interview. However, he said that Winfrey guards her kindness and generosity because she’s aware people can take advantage of her.
He also fondly recalls his first meeting with the American icon. “When I first met her, I approached her with high respects and asked her if I could have a picture taken with her, and she gamely obliged. She even hugged me,” Pascual cheerfully recalled.
Amidst the economical and political tribulations of his country, Pascual still proudly calls the Philippines “home.” “I miss Manila. Kahit mahirap ang buhay sa Manila, ang tao marunong magsaya. Sa New York, sobrang pagod kasi puro trabaho.”
He also doesn’t forget to give back. Pascual is in the junior committees of the American Ballet Foundation and Operation Smile, volunteer medical services organization that provides reconstructive facial surgery to indigent children and young adults in many countries, including the Philippines.
In the future, Pascual dreams settle down in the Philippines, put up his own business and become a shoe designer.
