Snore-it

Three months ago I was privileged to attend a seminar about LEADERSHIP. The leadership class was attended by various people of different nationalities working in different positions. Attendees include engineers, unit head, supervisors and project managers from different department strategically chosen by our human resources department for personality development.

In a class like this, different types of participants are expected. There are those who listen attentively and seriously (I think I’m under this category..^grin smile^), attendees who at every second asked questions causing distraction during discussions and the most unusual of them all, the snoring attendees who not just snores silently/ordinary but loudly-SNORING distracting the whole class immediately. It’s really a gruesome situation and very unfair for us :) J serious attendees. To the point that I think I’m wearing a ear plugs for snoring just to divert the distraction but in this case the technique is ineffective. It’s good that he voluntarily leave the training otherwise what we can learn is only the tone of his beautiful snoring music.

The snoring guy might have had a very a big health problem. Anyone who might happen to be beside him while sleeping must always have a bunch of hearing protection device just to neutralize the noise.

Snoring can be tolerated when sleeping in your own private room but if by chance you take a nap in a public bus, or a short orientation or seminar like what I experience above. You could end up in a very embarrassing situation.

I’ve conducted a quick research on this problem and according to my source: Snoring occurs when the free flow of air through the passages at the back of the mouth and nose is obstructed. This area is the collapsible part of the airway flow where our tongue & upper throat meet the soft palate & uvula. The soft flesh in the back of the mouth relaxes so much it begins to vibrate with each inhale. The rushing air causes this loose tissue to vibrate, creating the low grumble or loud buzzing known as snoring.

Here are the things you should remember to avoid snoring:

  • Avoid alcohol before going to bed
  • Reduce your weight
  • Stop smoking
  • Establish regular sleeping patterns
  • Sleep on your side rather your back
  • Take a decongestant before bed to relieve nasal congestion
  • Try sleeping without a pillow

I advise you keep those in mind if you know you are snoring. By the way, my wife and my son knew that I’m snoring too :) its not that loud though because I installed a silencer in my throat..:)
