The Birth of OFWLAYF BLOG and Why I BLOG

Introduction
It all started when I read an article one evening of November 2006 on readers digest featuring the life of a pro-blogger (I’m trying to look up the link on the readers digest archive articles online but to no avail so pleasebear with me if I wasn’t able to provide you the stories’ link). The one page story contains a picture of a blogger in a room busy in front of a computer having two flat monitors, how an online diarist leave his 8-5 job to become fulltime blogger, leaving a BIG QUESTION MARK on top of my head wandering for the job swap as written in the rd featured article. Earning? Benefits? Time? Passion.. the list of questions keeps popping in my head. The curiosity inside me is telling to create one but eventually lack of interest or might I say shortage of information about blogging defeated my will to create my very own blog during that time.

Two months later, a friend shared an online article of a Filipino who shared his story online about his experience in blogging and how he is having a huge online income through google adsense. It also includes instruction how he sign up google adsense and his earning history. My officemate then asked me if that article online is true or not. Considering that I’ve read a similar story 2 months back I replied, yes it is probable. That same day I decided to sit with my PC and began looking for more information about blogging.

Googling it I found myself buried deep in mountains of stories, sites blogs talking about money making online which later does me more harm than good coz all I’ve seen were sites selling you something, telling you to sign-up for newsletter etc..etc etc.. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.. At the end of the day I’ve managed to extract some info about blogging and finally I said this is not the right one for me.. I couldn’t do this because I dont know how html works.. I’m not a writer.. I’m not good in English.. (heheh thats why you’ll find eye-sore grammatical error in my posts I apologise again.. i’m not a born writer.. just trying hard to improve myself..and fighting to overcome this communication weakness of mine.. )

The Entrepinoys Blog Discovery
Still I wasn’t convinced to start blogging…I guess that the PROS of starting a blog were outnumbered by CONS during that time. Until one day, I discovered the blog of Ka Leo. I was inspired by his blog providing vital information about different business ideas to pinoy surfers. He has a lots of of articles about entrepreneurship, how to start a business.. how much capital you need .. and so on.. see it yourself here you will thank me for sharing this link because I personally have benefited from his Piggery Article. I’m actually looking for information about “hog production” at that time as I’m planning to start piggery and hog production to be managed by my mother and father in Philippines. The blog of Ka Leo sharing free information gives me enough reason to start my own. That’s why if you will look in his BLOG and my OFWLAYF blog you will observe the resemblance in blog layout, we have used the same template by Andreas designed for wordpress, modifed by Gecko and Fly for blogger platform. You can see their live link at the bottom part of this blog.

Naming the Blog: OFW L-A-Y-F why not OFW LIFE?
Alright.. I think that is too much for this post introduction.. heheheh… Now since I’m decided to start blog and to finally join the blogosphere I should think of its name Like naming your pet, or your favorite stuff toy. First thing that came out in my mind is OFWLIFE.. *sign* but when I sign-up in blogger and type the URL.. I entered the OFWLAYF, I should have named my blog OFWLIFE instead of OFWLAYF… why OFWLAYF anyway.. because that time I thought this name is unique.. not knowing its disadvantage when promoting my blog offline due to the L-A-Y-F spelling.. hehehe… well that is the lesson that you will get from me If you are already a blogger then I’m sure you already knew this but if you are starter and thinking of creating your own blog my recommendation “name your blog with the correct spelling” .. an example is when a radio DJ promote my site in streaming radio, DJ Amord pronounce my blogsite and spell it O-F-W-L-A-Y-F whenever he plugs it in his online radio this should be easier if I use OFWLIFE since listener already knew the spelling and the word OFWLIFE.

My Blog Reloaded: Official First Post
I started this blog on final week of February 2007 but because of blog layout modification and my uncontentment in my initial posts.. I’ve deleted all the posts and re-launched it on 2nd week of March.. my self declared official first post is here entitled “My Blog Reloaded” . Then accumulates slowly as I publish post daily…. after 3 months here is OFWLAYF blog now..still getting the hang of bloging, surviving the challenges on its adventure in the mixed and diversed culture world of blogging arena.

Why I Blog?
It is through blogging that I learn many things, existence of thing whether living or non-living thing MUST always have reasons. Same rule applies in the world of blogging, every blog have goals and reasons of existence. The google as leading search engine.. the Amazon for online shopping, ebay… paypal… and others.. Needless to say that BLOGGING at OFWLAYF the author Lestat_m has its own reasons as well. Edyeyey, had actually tagged me about this one and I should post this in meme.. but stubborn me.. I’ve decided to include it on this post and hopefully our blogger friend Edyeyey of SEASON and REASON will not get angry with me.. ehehehe..:)

1. To learn new thing and share good thing about OFW and about Filipino and Philippines .
   
2. To be able to improve my writing skill – I’m not good at this one, I still have the hope that someday I can improve myself on this thing..practice..practice..practice.. I replaced..publish publish publish..
3. To know html or whereabouts of website building/hosting – I’m not aiming to become a professional webmaster, but hmm.why not… since I started bloggin.. I was forced to read and study basic html.. I’ve tweaked and modified this site… I’m not a coder, but I believe that everything can be learned..atleast now I know the /body the /header clause.. ehehe… and yes.. I’ve created my own header and upload it on this site see above… that is my creation…I am going kick-off a program offering free banner.. I will create banner for you.. if you are interested just visit this blog from time to time for further info and announcement..
4. To expand my network and win more friends.. this is the greatest advantage of blogging you can meet person from other part of the world and interact with them.. anytime.. anywhere…
5. You will consider me hypocrite ifI would not include blog monetizing in my reasons.. Yes.. I also want to make my blog as a source of extra-income… good enough to pay may monthly dues and internet bills..Isn’t it good to have a hobby that can possibly provide you extra income while providing/giving useful and maybe not useful information to your readers..:)?

I’ve just enumerated my main reasons in blogging and also the brief history of OFWLAYF blog. Below is my picture, blogging behind the OFWLIFE BLOG, an OFW working on the land with huge oil deposit – Kuwait. “Trabahong Kuwait – Pusong Pinoy” hehehe…
