Two teams are looking to regain their former glory days and only one seems to be headed in the right direction. The Buffalo Bills look to get back what Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith had done by leading them to four straight Super Bowls in the early 1990s and the St. Louis Rams look to regain the glory days of old when Kurt Warner led them to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, only the Bills look like they may have a shot at that as they bring their 3-0 record into St. Louis on Sunday, with the hapless Rams at a dismal 0-3 record.

The Bills (3-0) are coming off three consecutive losing seasons and haven’t made the playoffs this decade, but they appear to be jelling in 2008 as they are off to their best start since the 1992 club won its first four games. Quarterback Trent Edwards has proved instrumental in getting the job done at the QB position and has had ample help from the Bay Area, running back Marshawn Lynch. The young offensive duo has helped the Bills take the early lead in the AFC East, a division which looks open for the taking since New England looks to be faltering.

The Rams, after three games of struggling on offense, have turned to 38-year-old Trent Green at quarterback. Green was the quarterback back that was injured to make way for Kurt Warner who eventually took them to the Super Bowl.

With Marc Bulger at the helm, the Rams scored only 29 points in three games and are ranked 31st in total offense. Hopefully Green, who hasn’t thrown a regular-season pass since October of last season, can do better. Let’s hope the Rams can protect him better than they did Bulger. If they don’t, then the end could be near for beleaguered Rams head coach Scott Linehan. The Rams are 11-24 under Linehan and have lost 16 of their last 19 contests. And in a league where nearly half the games are decided by a touchdown or less, the Rams haven’t even come close.

So, for the keys to success for the Bills is to pressure Trent Green, be aggressive on offense and neutralize Steven Jackson, one of the best all-around backs in the NFL. For the Rams, be assignment-sound as the Rams have had more than their share of troubles with busted coverages, block the blitz and establish the run.

When it is all said and done, the Rams look to be grasping at straws and with a Bills team that is on a roll, the pundits give the Bills at least a two touchdown victory at St. Louis on Sunday.
